At the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai on Tuesday, the Rajasthan Royals became the first team to add a player to their roster as they paid Rs. 7.40 crore to acquire West Indies batter Rovman Powell.
After that, though, the team wasn’t overly busy and only recruited four more players to its roster. When it paid Rs. 5.8 crore for power-hitter Shubham Dubey, an Indian middle-order batter, it made headlines. It acquired South African left-arm fast bowler Nandre Burger for his basic price of Rs. 50 lakh, adding a useful left-arm pacer to its roster.
Sanju Samson, who brought in Avesh Khan and sent Devdutt Padikkal to the Lucknow Super Giants, will captain the Rajasthan Royals. The team participated in the IPL 2022 championship game but was not able to advance to the IPL 2023 playoffs.
The Rajasthan Royals did not do well in the league until 2022 after taking home the IPL championship in the first-ever IPL season. They did, however, resurface in 2022, only to have another unremarkable season in 2023.
The Jason Holder, Joe Root, and Obed Mccoy, the Royals only have three foreign slots remaining. Nevertheless, they will likely be on the lookout for homegrown players to bolster their ranks, such as Sameer Rizvi, Swastik Chikkara, Ashutosh Sharma, Abhimanyu Singh, and Saurabh Chauhan.
