Ravichandran Ashwin should given a retirement from international cricket

The off-spinner for Team India, Ravichandran Ashwin, was unexpectedly left out of the starting lineup for the second Test match against South Africa at Newlands in Cape Town. Cricket fans raised an eyebrow when all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja replaced him for the pivotal match on January 3.

When Jadeja was sidelined with a back spasm for the first game of the series in Centurion, Ashwin was chosen to start in place of him. But when Jadeja returned for the series’ last game, the seasoned spinner was left out.

Social media was used by supporters to voice their displeasure over Ashwin’s exclusion, with some speculating that it might be time for him to step down from international cricket. It is important to remember that Ashwin is still ranked first among Test bowlers in the ICC Rankings, notwithstanding the criticism. Against South Africa in the opening Test at Centurion, he played admirably in difficult seam-friendly conditions, taking one wicket at a cost of 41 runs in 19 overs.

But in the Boxing Day Test, the Men in Blue suffered a defeat, falling down by an innings and thirty-two runs. Their hopes of winning a record Test series on home ground in South Africa were dashed by this loss.

Cricket supporters have expressed dissatisfaction and controversy at Ashwin’s removal from the playing XI, prompting calls for consideration of the experienced player’s future in the sport.
