The Mumbai Indians have announced a major change in leadership for the 2024 season. Renowned all-rounder Hardik Pandya will take over as the Mumbai Indians’ captain, replacing the team’s most enduring, beloved, and successful captain, Rohit Sharma.
Considering this change in transition Mahela Jayawardene, the Mumbai Indians’ global head of performance, stated, “It is part of staying true to the MI philosophy of being future-ready and part of building legacy.” The Mumbai Indians have always had outstanding leadership, from Sachin to Harbhajan and Ricky to Rohit, who have all worked to build the team for the future while also contributing to the team’s immediate success. According to this ideology, Hardik Pandya will take over as captain.
“We express our gratitude to Rohit Sharma for his exceptional leadership; his tenure as the Mumbai Indians captain since 2013 has been nothing short of extraordinary,” the release added. In addition to bringing the team unmatched success, his leadership has cemented his status as one of the best captains in IPL history.
“Returning to Mumbai has a very special feeling for many reasons. Pandya had stated, “How my cricketing journey started in 2015 with MI, them noticing me in 2013,” upon rejoining his original IPL team. “The last ten years have been something truly unique, in my opinion. The fact that I’m at last back where my cricketing journey began still doesn’t fully sink in. I’ve accomplished everything that is conceivable.
One of the highlights of the player trading window leading up to the IPL 2024 auction was Hardik’s trade back to Mumbai.
