India have brought fast bowler Auqib Nabi into their squad for the first three ODIs against New Zealand, expanding his availability to the entire five-match series.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the change on October 31. Nabi, who was originally named in the squad for the fourth and fifth matches, will now be available from the opening ODI following Prasidh Krishna's withdrawal from the tour.
Krishna has been ruled out after failing to recover from a hamstring injury. The BCCI stated that the pacer needs additional time to build his bowling workload before returning to competitive cricket.
Nabi's inclusion follows an impressive run of performances, including his recent outing for India A in New Zealand. He picked up six wickets in the opening unofficial Test against New Zealand A in Lincoln, making an impact with the ball in conditions that offered assistance to the seamers.
The Jammu and Kashmir pacer also played a significant role in his state's historic Ranji Trophy triumph during the 2025-26 season. His performances in domestic cricket have helped him earn opportunities at the national level.
India will open their five-match ODI series against New Zealand on November 4 in Auckland. Shubman Gill will captain the side in the first three matches, with Shreyas Iyer named vice-captain. Iyer is set to take over the captaincy for the final two ODIs.
Nabi's availability from the first match gives the team another pace-bowling option as India prepare for the New Zealand conditions. However, his inclusion in the squad does not guarantee a place in the playing XI, with the team management set to assess its bowling combination ahead of each match.
Following the series opener in Auckland, the second ODI will be played in Wellington on November 7, while Hamilton will host the third match on November 10. The final two ODIs are scheduled for November 13 and 15 at Mount Maunganui.
