New Zealand have suffered two injury setbacks ahead of their five-match T20I series against India, with Mark Chapman and Zak Foulkes ruled out. All-rounder Josh Clarkson and fast bowler Blair Tickner have been named as their replacements.
New Zealand Cricket confirmed the changes on October 9, with the team preparing for the opening match in Christchurch on October 22.
Chapman Recovering from Hamstring Injury
Chapman sustained a tear in his left hamstring while playing in the European T20 Premier League last month. The batter will miss the entire T20I series against India but is on track to be available for the subsequent ODI series, according to New Zealand Cricket.
His absence removes an experienced batting option from New Zealand's T20I squad as the side prepares to face India on home soil.
Foulkes Sidelined by Hip Flexor Injury
Fast bowler Zak Foulkes has also been ruled out after injuring his right hip flexor during a recent Canterbury training session. His recovery timeline remains uncertain, leaving New Zealand without the young pace bowler for the upcoming series.
Clarkson and Tickner will now join the squad as New Zealand look to maintain their preparations ahead of the first T20I.
New Zealand's Updated T20I Squad
Mitchell Santner will captain the 16-member squad, which includes Finn Allen, Devon Conway, Michael Bracewell, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Tim Seifert, Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry.
The five-match series begins in Christchurch on October 22, followed by the second T20I at the same venue on October 24. The remaining matches will be played in Wellington, Auckland and Hamilton, with the final scheduled for November 1.
The series will provide New Zealand with an important opportunity to test their squad against India, while Clarkson and Tickner will have a chance to contribute following their call-ups.
With two players unavailable through injury, New Zealand's team management will be monitoring the squad's fitness as the international series approaches.
