Chinmay Sutar Scores Unbeaten 400 to Create Ranji Trophy History

Sutar remained unbeaten on 400 off 517 deliveries, striking 46 fours and seven sixes in an innings that put Mizoram in a commanding position. His landmark effort came in only his second first-class match for the side.

Sutar Joins an Exclusive List

The 29-year-old is now only the second batter in Ranji Trophy history to reach the 400-run mark in an innings. The only previous player to achieve the feat was Maharashtra's Bhausaheb Nimbalkar, who scored an unbeaten 443 against Kathiawar in 1948-49.

Sutar's innings also took him past several prominent names on the tournament's list of highest individual scores, including Prithvi Shaw, who made 379 for Mumbai against Assam in 2023.

Crucial Partnership Helps Mizoram Reach 581

Sutar anchored Mizoram's innings with remarkable endurance and consistency. After the ninth wicket fell with the score at 392, he continued to accumulate runs alongside Lalrempuia Chhakchhuak, who remained unbeaten on 14 from 76 balls.

Their unbroken last-wicket partnership was worth 189 runs, allowing Sutar to reach the historic milestone before Mizoram declared at 581 for nine.

Sutar was comfortably the leading contributor, with the next-highest individual score for Mizoram being Jehu Anderson's 69.

From Mumbai to Mizoram

Sutar moved to Mizoram after previously representing Mumbai in domestic cricket. He also represented the India Emerging Team at the 2019 Asian Cricket Council Emerging Teams Cup.

He made an encouraging start to his Ranji Trophy career earlier this month, scoring 99 in his second innings against Manipur after being dismissed for 35 in the first.

His latest performance represents a significant breakthrough in his first-class career and gives Mizoram a memorable moment in the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season.

With his unbeaten quadruple century, Sutar has produced one of the standout individual performances in Indian domestic cricket, joining a distinguished group of batters to have reached 400 in a first-class innings.
