Delhi Capitals have appointed former Sri Lanka fast bowler Chaminda Vaas as their fast-bowling coach ahead of the IPL 2027 season. He will replace Munaf Patel, who held the role over the previous two seasons.
Vaas joins a coaching setup led by Sourav Ganguly, with Yuvraj Singh serving as assistant and batting coach. His appointment brings extensive international experience to Delhi's bowling department.
Chaminda Vaas’ International Record
Vaas claimed 355 wickets in 111 Tests and 400 wickets in 322 ODIs during his international career. He was also part of Sri Lanka's 1996 World Cup-winning team.
The left-arm pacer was known for his swing bowling and accuracy. His most remarkable ODI performance came against Zimbabwe in 2001, when he took eight wickets for 19 runs, a record individual bowling performance in men's ODI cricket.
Vaas Returns to the IPL
Vaas previously represented Deccan Chargers in the IPL, taking 18 wickets in 13 matches. He was part of the franchise's title-winning campaign in 2009.
Delhi Capitals will hope his experience helps strengthen their pace attack as they prepare for the new season. The franchise, which reached its only IPL final in 2020, will be aiming to return to the playoffs after missing out in the previous two seasons.
Vaas' appointment is part of Delhi's efforts to build a stronger coaching structure and challenge for their maiden IPL title in 2027.
