Delhi Capitals have established a growing presence in franchise cricket, with the ownership group involved in several major T20 leagues around the world. As the franchise has expanded beyond the Indian Premier League, different coaches have taken charge of teams associated with the Delhi Capitals setup, bringing their own experience, tactical approaches and coaching philosophies.
Delhi Capitals – IPL
Delhi Capitals have worked with several prominent coaches during their IPL journey, with Ricky Ponting among the most influential figures in the franchise's recent history.
Ponting took over as head coach in 2018 and played an important role in shaping the team's competitive identity. Under his leadership, Delhi developed into a consistent contender and reached the IPL final in 2020.
Ponting was later succeeded by Hemang Badani, who became Delhi Capitals' head coach ahead of the 2025 IPL season. The former India all-rounder brought experience from both domestic and international cricket as the franchise looked to build a balanced squad featuring established stars and emerging talent.
Pretoria Capitals – SA20
The Delhi Capitals ownership group also has a presence in South Africa's SA20 through Pretoria Capitals.
Graham Ford has been associated with the franchise as head coach. The experienced South African coach has an extensive coaching background, having worked with the South African national team as well as several domestic and international sides.
Ford's experience has helped Pretoria Capitals combine local South African talent with overseas players while adapting to the demands of the SA20 competition.
Dubai Capitals – ILT20
Dubai Capitals represent the franchise in the UAE's International League T20. The team has been coached by former South African international Herschelle Gibbs during its ILT20 journey.
Gibbs brings extensive international playing experience and a reputation for an aggressive approach to the game. His background has added another dimension to Dubai Capitals' coaching setup as the team competes in a tournament featuring several established international players.
Delhi Capitals' Global Coaching Network
The expansion of Delhi Capitals into multiple franchise leagues has created a broader coaching structure across different cricketing environments.
Each team operates under different playing conditions and competition formats, making coaching experience particularly important. The franchise has therefore worked with coaches who understand both international cricket and the specific demands of T20 leagues.
From Ricky Ponting's long-term influence in the IPL to Graham Ford's experience in South African cricket and Herschelle Gibbs' international background, Delhi Capitals' coaching network reflects the franchise's growing global presence.
As franchise cricket continues to expand, the ability to build strong coaching structures across different leagues could play an important role in Delhi Capitals' long-term strategy.
