Chennai Super Kings are reportedly considering former England cricketer Gareth Batty for the batting coach position ahead of the Indian Premier League 2027 season. According to a report by The Times of India published on October 26, Batty is likely to join the five-time champions' support staff as the franchise continues to reshape its coaching setup.
The appointment has not been officially confirmed by CSK. If finalised, Batty would take on an important role in preparing the team's batters for the upcoming IPL campaign.
Gareth Batty Emerges as a Potential CSK Appointment
Batty is a former England international who represented his country in Test and limited-overs cricket. Primarily known as an off-spinner during his playing career, he later gained coaching experience in English domestic cricket.
His potential appointment would bring a different background to CSK's batting department, with the franchise looking to establish its support staff ahead of the 2027 season.
While details of Batty's expected responsibilities have not been disclosed, a batting coach typically works with players on technique, shot selection, match preparation and adapting to different conditions. Any specific plans for Batty at CSK remain unconfirmed.
CSK Continue Coaching Staff Reshuffle
The reported development comes amid significant changes to Chennai's coaching structure. Former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan has been appointed head coach for IPL 2027, while former India pacer Mohit Sharma has also been linked to the franchise's revised support setup as bowling coach.
CSK are preparing for a new chapter after several seasons under their previous coaching structure. The franchise will now look to build a coaching team capable of helping its experienced players maintain consistency while supporting the development of younger talent.
The batting coach position has attracted attention following reports surrounding Michael Hussey's departure from the role he held for several seasons. Batty's reported emergence as a candidate adds another development to the ongoing changes.
What It Could Mean for CSK
CSK supporters will be watching closely for confirmation of the appointment and further details about the team's coaching staff for IPL 2027.
For now, Batty's potential arrival remains a reported development rather than an official announcement. The franchise's final decision will clarify who takes responsibility for its batting group as preparations for the next IPL season continue.
