Since the five-time champion Mumbai Indians announced Hardik Pandya as the team’s captain ahead of the IPL 2024, Rohit Sharma’s IPL future has been the talk of the town.
The Mumbai Indians, who acquired Hardik from Gujarat Titans on the day of the retention deadline, declared the talented all-rounder from India to be the team’s captain on Friday, December 15, to much criticism from supporters due to the way the announcement was made.
When MI and the all-rounder were negotiating a possible deal earlier this year, it is thought that MI promised Hardik the captaincy. However, a few rumors stated that Hardik will assume the position in the upcoming year. However, the team announced last week that they had decided on the captaincy early after the successful exchange that also saw MI send Australian all-rounder Cameron Green to RCB. There were rumors that Rohit was leaving when Hardik was considering returning to Michigan.
Following these transactions, Hardik Pandya was named the Mumbai Indians’ 2024 captain on December 15. Since then, there has been talk that if Rohit Sharma isn’t traded out of the Mumbai Indians, he won’t be eligible for the 2024 season.
