IPL 2024 Auction: The First-ever female auctioneer in the IPL: Who is Mallika Sagar?

The IPL auction procedure will take place outside of the nation for the first time ever. In Dubai, there will be an IPL 2024 auction. Another unique feature of this IPL auction is its timing. In the 16-year history of the IPL, a woman will oversee the auction process for the first time. This time, the IPL auction will be conducted by Mumbai native Mallika Sagar.

The Indian Premier League 2024 mini auction is getting closer. On Tuesday, December 19, at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, the IPL bidding will take place. In all, 333 players—both domestic and international—will try their luck in this auction. There are 119 international cricket players and 214 Indian players. Meanwhile, some intriguing news surfaced the day before the auction.

The fact that Mallika is the fourth person to run the IPL auction is notable. IPL auctions were conducted by Richard Madley for over a decade. The IPL auction was run by him from 2008 until 2018. Following that, Hugh Edwards served as the IPL auctioneer until 2023. In the midst of the 2022 Mega Auction, a medical emergency caused Edwards Hospital to collapse. Charu Sharma carried on with the auction. The first Indian to host an IPL auction was Charu Sharma.

Mallika Sagar has a great deal of expertise running auctions. It staged the WPL 2024 auction recently in addition to the 2023 Women’s Premier League. There was a campaign going at the time claiming that she will also run the IPL auction. She has also conducted the Pro Kabaddi League auction in the past, in 2021. Mallika is a Mumbai-based art collector who specializes in modern and contemporary Indian art. She also has experience holding auctions at Mumbai’s renowned Pandoli Art Galleries. She led the auction process for the first time at the age of 26. Her role as the pioneer in conducting the auction process for modern Indian art is remarkable.
