Tara Norris Traded to Mumbai Indians Ahead of WPL 2027 Auction

Mumbai Indians have strengthened their squad ahead of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2027 auction by acquiring USA left-arm pacer Tara Norris from UP Warriorz. The trade brings an experienced overseas bowler into Mumbai’s plans as the franchise prepares for the upcoming season.

Norris has moved to Mumbai Indians in an all-cash deal worth ₹10 lakh, the same amount for which UP Warriorz signed her ahead of the 2026 season. The transfer was completed after the retention deadline, as teams continued to finalise their squads before the auction.

Tara Norris Returns to the WPL Spotlight

Norris first made her mark in the WPL while representing Delhi Capitals during the inaugural season in 2023. She created history by becoming the first Associate-nation player to feature in the tournament and the first bowler to claim a five-wicket haul in the competition.

During her five appearances in the 2023 season, Norris took seven wickets at an average of 26.00, with an economy rate of 4.33. Her performances demonstrated the value of left-arm pace in the high-pressure T20 format.

Although UP Warriorz retained Norris ahead of the 2026 campaign, she missed the tournament after receiving a call-up to the United States squad for the T20 World Cup Qualifiers.

Mumbai Indians Prepare for WPL 2027 Auction

The move marks Norris’s second association with an MI franchise after representing MI London in The Hundred earlier in 2026. Her left-arm bowling provides Mumbai with another option as the team looks to maintain its competitive edge.

The WPL 2027 player auction is scheduled to take place in Kochi on October 28, with the tournament set to run from January 14 to February 7, 2027.

Following the trade, Mumbai Indians will enter the auction with ₹90 lakh remaining and up to six squad slots to fill. UP Warriorz, meanwhile, will have ₹3.75 crore available to strengthen their squad.

Norris’s move adds another international dimension to Mumbai’s bowling options, with attention now turning to how the franchise completes its squad ahead of the fifth edition of the WPL.
