Ben Duckett is an English international cricketer who represents England across multiple formats. Born in Farnborough, Hampshire, he developed his game through the English county cricket system before establishing himself as a top-order batter at domestic and international levels.
Duckett began his professional career with Northamptonshire, making his first-class debut in 2012. His consistent performances in county cricket helped him gain recognition as one of England's promising young batters. The 2016 season was a significant milestone, as he received the Professional Cricketers' Association Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards.
His performances earned him an opportunity to represent England internationally in 2016. After an initial spell in the national side, Duckett continued to develop his game through county cricket before returning to international cricket and becoming a regular member of England's batting lineup.
T20I Career
Ben Duckett made his T20 International debut for England against Pakistan in May 2019. His opportunities in the format have varied throughout his international career, with domestic and franchise cricket providing additional experience in T20 conditions.
As a left-handed batter, Duckett has demonstrated the ability to score quickly and adapt to different match situations. His experience across competitions has helped him develop against a range of bowling styles and playing conditions.
ODI Career
Ben Duckett made his One Day International debut against Bangladesh in October 2016. After a period away from England's ODI side, he returned to the format in 2023 and scored his maiden ODI century against Ireland in September that year.
Duckett continued to establish himself in England's top order, combining an attacking approach with the ability to build substantial innings. He scored 165 against Australia in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, setting a record for the highest individual score in the tournament's history at the time.
On 29 October 2026, Duckett surpassed that personal best with 167 against Sri Lanka in Lahore. His second consecutive ODI century helped England reach 386/5 in the final match of the tri-series. The innings marked a new career-best score and further highlighted his importance to England's ODI batting lineup.
Test Career
Duckett made his Test debut against Bangladesh in October 2016. Following his initial appearances, he spent several years outside the Test side before returning in 2022.
His comeback coincided with England's more aggressive approach to Test cricket under captain Ben Stokes and head coach Brendon McCullum. Duckett established himself as an opening batter alongside Zak Crawley, contributing to England's efforts to build quick starts against opposition bowling attacks.
He made an important contribution during England's 2022 tour of Pakistan and continued to feature regularly in the Test side. His performances against India in 2024 demonstrated his ability to play spin effectively, while his contributions during the 2025 home series against India further strengthened his place in England's top order.
Duckett's proactive approach and willingness to score through different areas of the ground have made him a regular part of England's Test plans.
Domestic Career
Duckett began his professional career with Northamptonshire, where he developed across all three formats. His performances in county cricket during the 2015 and 2016 seasons brought him widespread recognition and helped secure his first opportunities with England.
He later joined Nottinghamshire, continuing his domestic career in English county cricket. His experience in the County Championship and limited-overs competitions has played an important role in his development as an international batter.
Duckett has also featured in franchise competitions, including the Big Bash League, Pakistan Super League and The Hundred. These opportunities have allowed him to experience different team environments and playing conditions outside English domestic cricket.
IPL Career
Ben Duckett was acquired by Delhi Capitals at the IPL auction ahead of the 2026 season. However, he withdrew from the tournament before making an appearance.
He has therefore not made his Indian Premier League debut. His experience in other franchise competitions remains part of his broader T20 career.
