Biography

MS Dhoni was born on July 7, 1981, in Ranchi, Jharkhand. As of 2026, he is 44 years old. Before cricket became his profession, Dhoni worked as a ticket collector with Indian Railways, balancing his job with domestic cricket commitments. His journey from small-town cricketer to one of the most respected leaders in world sport remains one of Indian cricket’s most inspiring stories.

Known for his calm presence and sharp tactical awareness, Dhoni built a reputation as a finisher and wicketkeeper of exceptional skill. His unorthodox batting style and lightning-quick glove work made him stand out early in his career.

Dhoni made his international debut in 2004. Over the next decade and a half, he became the backbone of India’s white-ball teams. Under his captaincy, India won the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup, the 2011 ICC ODI World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy. He remains the only Indian captain to have secured all three major ICC white-ball trophies.

Across formats, Dhoni scored more than 17,000 international runs and effected over 800 dismissals as a wicketkeeper. His finishing ability in limited-overs cricket, especially in pressure chases, defined an era. He retired from international cricket in August 2020 but continues to be associated with the game through the IPL.

Dhoni has been the face of Chennai Super Kings since the inaugural IPL season in 2008. Under his leadership, CSK became one of the most consistent and successful franchises in league history, winning multiple IPL titles and reaching numerous finals.

During the two-season suspension of CSK (2016–17), he represented Rising Pune Supergiant, guiding the team to the final in 2017. His loyalty and long-term association with Chennai earned him immense respect from fans across the country.

Dhoni leads a disciplined and relatively private life. He is known for his passion for motorcycles, fitness routines, and time spent with family. Despite global recognition, he has maintained a grounded personality and avoids unnecessary public attention.

Dhoni married Sakshi Singh Rawat in 2010. The couple has a daughter, Ziva. He often credits his family for providing stability and support throughout his demanding career.

From Ranchi to global triumphs, Dhoni’s legacy extends beyond statistics. His leadership, composure, and integrity continue to influence Indian cricket.
