India vs West Indies 2nd T20I Highlights

Sanju Samson Leads India's Explosive Batting Display

After West Indies won the toss and elected to bowl, India made an aggressive start to their innings.

Abhishek Sharma scored 20 off 12 balls before falling to Roston Chase. Samson then combined with Ishan Kishan to build a powerful partnership that kept India's scoring rate high.

Samson was particularly impressive, striking nine fours and four sixes during his innings of 82 from 41 deliveries. His aggressive approach put the West Indies bowlers under pressure and gave India a strong platform.

Kishan contributed 43 off 22 balls, including six fours and two sixes, as the pair added 97 runs for the second wicket.

Chase provided an important breakthrough by dismissing Kishan and later removed Shivam Dube and Samson to finish with three wickets.

Shreyas Iyer added further momentum with 40 off just 18 balls, while Tilak Varma delivered a powerful finish, remaining unbeaten on 44 from 18 deliveries.

Varma struck three fours and three sixes, helping India finish with 249/5 in their allotted 20 overs.

Mayank Yadav Strikes Twice in the Opening Over

West Indies' chase began disastrously as Mayank Yadav removed Kamil Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer in the opening over.

The visitors were reduced to 5/2, leaving India in a commanding position early in the innings.

Mayank struck again to dismiss captain Rovman Powell for 24, reducing West Indies to 58/3 in 5.1 overs.

At that stage, India appeared to have the upper hand. However, Hope remained composed and continued to rotate the strike while looking for opportunities to attack.

What followed was a remarkable counterattack that completely changed the direction of the match.

Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford Turn the Match Around

Hope found the perfect partner in Sherfane Rutherford, who arrived at the crease with an aggressive approach.

Rutherford attacked India's bowlers from the outset, finding boundaries and clearing the ropes regularly. His innings of 84 from 37 balls featured seven fours and seven sixes.

Hope complemented Rutherford's power-hitting with an equally effective innings. The West Indies captain struck six fours and nine sixes, keeping the required run rate under control.

The pair added 120 runs for the fourth wicket from just 54 deliveries, taking West Indies from a difficult position to within sight of a historic victory.

Rutherford eventually fell to Kuldeep Yadav for 84, but the damage had already been done. West Indies needed only 72 more runs when the partnership ended.

Romario Shepherd Finishes the Chase

Romario Shepherd joined Hope after Rutherford's dismissal and immediately continued the attacking approach.

Shepherd scored an unbeaten 34 from just 13 balls, striking three fours and three sixes.

Hope maintained his composure throughout the closing overs, reaching his century before finishing the match in spectacular fashion.

With West Indies needing six runs to win, Hope struck Axar Patel for a six to complete his unbeaten 102 and seal the victory.

West Indies reached 252/4 in 18.3 overs, completing a remarkable chase with nine balls remaining.

Turning Point of the Match: Hope and Rutherford's 120-Run Partnership

The decisive moment came when Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford joined forces after West Indies had slipped to 58/3.

India had made an excellent start with the ball, reducing the visitors to 5/2 in the opening over and removing Powell soon afterwards.

However, Hope and Rutherford refused to let the early setbacks dictate the result.

Their 120-run partnership from 54 balls completely shifted the momentum. Rutherford attacked the Indian bowlers with powerful hitting, while Hope ensured the innings remained under control.

The partnership reduced the pressure on the lower order and brought the required run rate within reach.

The key turning point was Rutherford's explosive counterattack alongside Hope. What initially looked like a comfortable position for India became a chase dominated by the West Indies batters.

Shepherd's late hitting then ensured India could not recover.

Shai Hope Named Player of the Match

Hope's unbeaten century was the defining performance of the contest.

The West Indies captain scored 102 from 45 deliveries, combining controlled batting with powerful stroke play. His innings featured nine sixes and six fours.

Rutherford's 84 off 37 balls provided the attacking spark, while Shepherd's unbeaten 34 ensured the chase was completed comfortably.

Hope's performance demonstrated the importance of maintaining composure during a high-pressure chase, particularly after losing two wickets almost immediately.

What Does the Result Mean for the T20I Series?

The victory brings the five-match T20I series level at 1–1.

India will need to review their bowling performance after conceding 252 runs despite taking three wickets early in the chase. Their inability to break the Hope-Rutherford partnership proved costly.

West Indies, meanwhile, will take considerable confidence from a successful chase of 250. Their batters showed that even a formidable total can be chased with sustained aggression and effective partnerships.

The third T20I is scheduled for October 11 in Indore, where both teams will look to take the series lead.
