Sunrisers Hyderabad produced another powerful batting performance to defeat Punjab Kings by 33 runs in Match 49 of IPL 2026 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Tuesday. The victory helped SRH climb back to the top of the points table after posting one of the season’s highest totals.
After being sent in to bat, Hyderabad made full use of the batting-friendly conditions and finished with an imposing 235 for 4 in 20 overs. The innings was built around aggressive starts from the top order and strong finishing in the final overs.
SRH Batters Maintain Pressure Throughout Innings
The opening pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma once again gave Hyderabad a quick start. Abhishek attacked from the beginning and struck boundaries regularly during the powerplay, while Head kept the scoreboard moving with positive strokeplay.
Heinrich Klaasen continued his excellent form in the tournament with a fluent 69 off 43 deliveries. Ishan Kishan also played a major role, scoring 55 from 32 balls and adding an important partnership in the middle overs. Nitish Kumar Reddy added late runs with an unbeaten cameo that pushed SRH beyond the 230-run mark.
Punjab Kings missed a few key opportunities in the field, including dropped catches and a missed stumping, which proved costly in a high-scoring contest.
Connolly’s Century Not Enough for Punjab Kings
Chasing 236, Punjab Kings lost early wickets and struggled to keep pace with the required run rate. Cooper Connolly stood out with a brilliant unbeaten 107, registering his first century in franchise cricket. The left-hander kept PBKS in the contest with clean hitting and smart placement, but lacked enough support from the other end.
Pat Cummins led the SRH bowling attack effectively and picked up crucial wickets in the powerplay. The Hyderabad bowlers mixed pace cleverly during the middle overs and controlled the scoring rate despite the flat conditions.
Punjab Kings eventually finished on 202 for 7 in their 20 overs as Sunrisers Hyderabad secured another convincing home victory.
