Jake Fraser-McGurk Returns to T20I Squad
Fraser-McGurk has earned a place in Australia's T20I squad for the first time since 2025. The hard-hitting batter returns as Australia continue to build their options for the shorter format ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and the next T20 World Cup.
Fast bowler Mahli Beardman has also been selected in both squads after recovering from injury. His performances for Australia A during their recent tour of India helped him earn another opportunity at international level.
Jack Edwards has been rewarded for his performances during the South Africa tour and consistent domestic form, securing selection in both formats. Young New South Wales batter Lachlan Shaw has received his maiden T20I squad call-up after impressing for Australia A and in the Big Bash League.
Spencer Johnson and Liam Scott return to the ODI squad, while Nathan Ellis has not recovered in time for the 50-over series following a side strain. Ellis remains part of the T20I squad.
Australia Manage Player Workloads
Australia have also considered player workloads when selecting the squads. Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood will undergo a short period of recovery following the South Africa tour as they prepare for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand.
Travis Head, Matthew Renshaw, Josh Inglis, Cooper Connolly and Cameron Green will also be managed during the T20I series after their recent international commitments.
Chair of Selectors George Bailey said the England matches would provide several players with an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities against strong opposition.
He also highlighted the development of Beardman and Shaw, while expressing confidence in the potential of Fraser-McGurk and Mitchell Owen in the shorter formats.
The ODI series will contribute to Australia's preparations for the 2027 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup. The T20I matches will form part of the team's longer-term planning for the 2028 Olympics and the next T20 World Cup.
