Delhi Capitals end RCB’s unbeaten run with clinical WPL victory

Delhi Capitals produced a disciplined and well-rounded display to register their third win of the Women’s Premier League, bringing Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s winning streak to a halt.

The Capitals’ bowlers laid the groundwork early, keeping a tight leash on the scoring rate and forcing mistakes through sustained pressure. Marizanne Kapp led the effort with controlled spells, striking at crucial moments to deny Bengaluru any early fluency.

Conditions made stroke-making difficult, and RCB captain Smriti Mandhana found it challenging to find timing during the initial overs. Although she tried to anchor the innings after a cautious beginning, wickets continued to fall around her, preventing Bengaluru from building partnerships.

The turning point came when a miscued shot resulted in Grace Harris’ dismissal, opening the door for Capitals to tighten their grip. Minnu Mani made her presence felt immediately, using the middle overs effectively to break the resistance and maintain the pressure.

With the pitch offering limited pace, the Capitals’ bowlers adjusted well. Chinelle Henry and Nandni Sharma mixed their lengths and speeds intelligently, ensuring that RCB were unable to launch a late surge.

The innings ended without a significant recovery, leaving Bengaluru with a below-par total.

In reply, Delhi Capitals approached the chase with clarity and intent. Shafali Verma started positively before being dismissed, but the early setback did little to alter the momentum of the innings.

Jemimah Rodrigues and Laura Wolvaardt then took charge, constructing a steady partnership that effectively removed any remaining uncertainty. Their approach was measured, focusing on strike rotation and capitalising on loose deliveries rather than taking unnecessary risks.

Rodrigues departed while attempting to up the scoring rate, but Wolvaardt remained composed. Alongside Kapp, she guided the chase to a comfortable finish, completing the task well within the available overs.

The victory moves Delhi Capitals up to second place on the points table, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru will look to bounce back after their first setback of the season.
