India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is reportedly unlikely to feature in the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand as the team management looks to manage his workload and prepare him for the Test leg of the tour.
According to reports published by The Times of India and other cricket news outlets, the decision is understood to be part of India’s workload-management strategy rather than a response to a new injury concern. Bumrah is reportedly fit, but the team wants him to focus on red-ball cricket ahead of the two-Test series.
India Reportedly Planning Bumrah’s Test Preparation
India are scheduled to play five ODIs against New Zealand beginning November 4, followed by two Test matches later in the tour. The ODI squad had not been officially announced at the time of the reports.
The reported plan could see Bumrah feature in an India A multi-day fixture against New Zealand, scheduled to begin on November 6. This would give the fast bowler an opportunity to build his bowling workload before the first Test, which is scheduled to start on November 19.
The team management is understood to be keen to have Bumrah ready for India’s upcoming Test assignments. His ability to deliver high-intensity spells makes careful workload planning particularly important across a demanding international schedule.
No Official Confirmation Yet
Bumrah’s possible absence from the ODI series should not be treated as a confirmed selection decision. India’s final ODI squad announcement will clarify whether the fast bowler is included.
If he is rested, India will need to consider other pace-bowling options for the five-match series. The matches will also provide an opportunity for the team to assess its bowling resources ahead of future international commitments.
For now, the reports point towards India prioritising Bumrah’s red-ball preparation, with his participation in the New Zealand ODIs still awaiting official confirmation.
