India captain Shubman Gill has added another notable milestone to his ODI career after claiming his seventh Player of the Series award, putting him alongside former India stars MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh.
Gill reached the landmark during India's three-match ODI series against West Indies, further highlighting his growing influence in India's 50-over setup.
Gill Joins Dhoni and Yuvraj
With seven Player of the Series awards in ODIs, Gill has now matched the tally of Dhoni and Yuvraj.
Both former India stars played important roles during one of the most successful periods in Indian limited-overs cricket. Gill, meanwhile, has reached the mark much earlier in his international career.
The achievement reflects the consistency he has shown since establishing himself as a regular member of India's ODI side.
Gill Continues Strong ODI Form
Gill has developed into one of India's leading ODI batters. His ability to construct long innings while maintaining a healthy scoring rate has made him a key player at the top of the order.
His growing importance has also brought additional responsibility, with Gill taking charge as India's ODI captain.
The West Indies series once again provided an opportunity for Gill to lead the team from the front. India won the first two matches to seal the series before West Indies produced a strong chase in the third ODI.
West Indies successfully chased India's 351/7, reaching 352/5 to win the match by five wickets. India ultimately finished the three-match series with a 2-1 victory.
Gill, Dhoni and Yuvraj on the Same List
Gill's seventh Player of the Series award puts him in an impressive group of Indian ODI performers.
Player | Player of the Series Awards |
|---|---|
Shubman Gill | 7 |
7 | |
Yuvraj Singh | 7 |
The milestone is particularly significant because Gill has reached the seven-award mark relatively early in his international career.
Dhoni and Yuvraj earned their recognition over lengthy careers that included multiple major international tournaments and memorable performances for India.
A Significant Milestone Ahead of 2027
Gill's latest achievement comes at an important stage for Indian cricket, with the 2027 ODI World Cup on the horizon.
As India's captain and one of the team's premier batters, Gill will be expected to play a central role in the team's preparations for the tournament.
His consistency in ODI cricket could prove crucial as India builds towards the World Cup.
For now, the seventh Player of the Series award adds another impressive achievement to Gill's growing résumé and places him alongside two of India's most celebrated limited-overs players.
