Suryakumar & Hardik Pandya ruled out of Afghanistan T20Is

The Indian team will not include Suryakumar Yadav & Hardik Pandya for the three-match Twenty20 International series against Afghanistan that begins on January 11 at home. Due to a finger injury, Ruturaj Gaikwad is also not available and is probably going to miss the opening leg of the England Test series. On Sunday night, the Afghanistan T20Is squad will be selected. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s participation is not yet confirmed. Since India’s semifinal loss to England in the 2022 T20 World Cup, neither Rohit nor Kohli have participated in a Twenty20 International.

After the IPL, Suryakumar and Hardik should return to action. In the third and final game in Johannesburg, Suryakumar, who captained India in the Twenty20 Internationals in South Africa in December, suffered an ankle injury while fielding. He just had ankle surgery, and in a few months, he should be back to training.

India’s final bilateral Twenty20 International match before the T20 World Cup, which kicks off on June 1st, just after the Indian Premier League, is against Afghanistan. The selectors would have preferred it if all 15 of their first-choice players—including Hardik, who hobbled out of the ODI World Cup after tearing a ligament in the league match against Bangladesh in Pune in November—had been eligible for selection.
