Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has expressed his desire to see Abhishek Sharma earn an opportunity in India's ODI team, stressing the importance of giving talented young players opportunities in 50-over cricket.
Yuvraj believes players such as Abhishek, Ishan Kishan and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi deserve consideration for the ODI format. He feels that overlooking such attacking talents could mean India are not making the most of their available batting resources.
Speaking about Abhishek Sharma prospects in the 50-over format, Yuvraj said he would love to see the left-handed batter represent India in ODIs. He also reiterated his earlier position on providing opportunities to emerging players.
"I would love to see Abhishek Sharma in the ODIs. I have said this before, if we are not picking players like Ishan Kishan, Abhishek and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in 50-over cricket, then somewhere down the line, we are not doing justice to our talent," Yuvraj said, as quoted by PTI.
Abhishek has established himself as an aggressive opening batter in India's T20I setup, known for his attacking approach during the powerplay. His performances in the shortest format have strengthened calls for opportunities in the longer white-ball format.
Ishan Kishan also brings experience in ODI cricket, having previously represented India in the format. Meanwhile, young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has attracted attention with his fearless batting and ability to score quickly.
Yuvraj's comments have renewed the discussion around India's batting options and the transition of explosive T20 performers into 50-over international cricket.
With India's future ODI plans continuing to take shape, the performances of these players could remain an important talking point in selection discussions. However, final decisions on team composition will rest with the selectors and team management.
