Pakistan have released Saim Ayub from their ODI squad for the remainder of the ongoing tri-series featuring England and Sri Lanka, with Sahibzada Farhan named as his replacement.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed the squad change on October 26. Ayub will return to domestic cricket as he looks to work on his batting form and regain confidence following a difficult run in the tournament.
According to reports, the decision came after discussions involving Ayub, head coach Mike Hesson and the team management. The request was accepted by the selectors, allowing the left-handed batter to focus on his game away from the national setup.
Saim Ayub Looks to Regain Form
Ayub struggled to make an impact in his first three appearances in the tri-series, registering scores of seven against Sri Lanka, eight against England and six in his latest outing against England.
The 24-year-old's departure gives him an opportunity to work on his batting ahead of future international assignments. His performances had come under scrutiny after he was unable to provide Pakistan with consistent starts at the top of the order.
Sahibzada Farhan Joins the ODI Squad
Sahibzada Farhan has been brought into the squad for the remaining matches. The right-handed batter, who recently led Pakistan in T20I cricket, will now have an opportunity to make his mark in the ODI setup.
Farhan's inclusion provides Pakistan with another batting option as they prepare for the final stages of the tournament. Whether he features in the playing XI will depend on the team's selection plans.
Pakistan Turn Attention to Sri Lanka
Pakistan have secured their place in the tri-series final after winning their first three matches. They are scheduled to face Sri Lanka in their final league fixture at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on October 27, ahead of the final on October 31.
With qualification already secured, Pakistan will aim to maintain their momentum while assessing their combination for the title decider. Farhan's arrival adds another option as the team prepares for the remaining fixtures.
